Course: Nursing Care Assistant II

Description: The following skills will be taught: Sterile dressing change and wound irrigation, oral/nasogastric and gastrostomy feedings, urinary catheterization, oxygen therapy, break-up and removal of fecal impactions, IV assistive activities and IV dressing change, tracheostomy care, oropharyngeal/nasopharyngeal suctioning, and ostomy care.

Please have available on the first day of class:

  • Picture ID and your Social Security Card
  • Proof of High School Education
    • HS Diploma
    • GED
    • High School Equivalency

Successful completion of this course requires 80 hours of classroom, a score of 80% or greater on each test, demonstration of clinical competency in the NA II skills, and 80 hours of clinical time.

Who should attend: DUHS NCA I who have manager's approval to enroll

Pre-requisites: Current NCA I listing and working as NCA I at DUHS; High School Diploma or GED equivalent

Open to outside Duke University Health System: No

Fees: $40.00 for Nursing Assistant Book
